Hey intermediate Songwriter, welcome to our songwriting collab info page!
My name is Brett Cusack (aka Megalove) and I’d like to tell you a story that started around 15 years ago when I started my very own solo project.
(TLDR Version: Writing songs was hard, found a powerful strategy, built on that strategy, now I help others make great songs and release them. Join our songwriting collab below) Here we go.
I was a songwriter trying to do everything myself and all I really wanted was to write great songs that made people feel empowered.
Doing it all myself meant I didn’t have to pay expensive studio musicians or hire a producer (that would change my music) or be in a band that would take lots of time but never really go anywhere.
I just wanted to do what I love, make great songs, grow as an artist and have fun doing it.
The thing is I wasn’t able to find the right people and nothing was really landing.
I didn’t have the budget to continuously pay session musicians, producers and effectively market my music.
That meant I wasn’t able to do what I love and make great songs, let alone have fun and grow as an artist.
To make things worse, I felt terrible because I’d already released songs, paid session musicians and hired producers in the past and it didn’t really go anywhere.
I felt even worse about the situation because I had invested 1000’s of hours of time and money and making music wasn’t fun anymore.
I felt like a failure and my dream of making music was starting to fade.
The problem was that because I was trying to do it all myself and
my songs were suffering as a result.
This meant no one was listening to my music and I was feeling really alone. This killed my enthusiasm and I just stopped writing all together.
Then, as if by chance, something amazing happened…
That’s when I found a songwriting and collaboration group all about working in teams to create better quality songs.
It was now crystal clear to me how to write great songs. Working in a team made me see I could focus on my strengths and work alongside other amazing specialists filling in my weaknesses.
I also learned that that spending loads of money on producers and video clips wasn’t what makes great songs or breaks artists, where the magic happens is working in collaboration to write great songs first and then add in all the flashy stuff.
As a result I started working with as many other songwriters as I could and attended LOTS of songwriting events.
After I did that, I started creating songs that people really started to enjoy and got great feedback on.
Suddenly, I was making progress towards writing great songs and getting the recognition I wanted.
That’s when I realised that the secret to write, record and release my songs was working in songwriting collaboration groups with everyone working together. This helped make better songs, much faster.
My plan was to start helping others with the power of collaboration.
So I started running my own online songwriting events. But we didn’t stop there.
We then developed songwriting skill development activities to help people write better lyrics each week (and have material for collaborations).
After that, we created a ‘Hit Song Blue Print’ to get people organised.
But there was still a problem…
We still weren’t finishing and releasing the music we were creating.
We ended up getting so frustrated that we decided to to create our very own label and artist name to release music under.
As a group we chose to call it “Burleigh Hill Collective” – Our very own record label to release OUR music. (Listen to our latest releases below)
We thought if we could create something that would make it possible to collaborate, record and release music that our community can all be apart of, we’d be really happy.
After 6 months of testing, tweaking and getting this collaboration group just right we were able to help others write songs, get organised, have fun and, most importantly actually complete and release our songs on Spotify.
Now, we’re ready to launch our group to the songwriting world, for others to come and learn this powerful, fun and career changing process.
In these collaboration sessions I can now help our members work as a team to write, record and release a song in 5 weeks.
As a result of all this we were able to achieve the following:
Help our members have fun, grow as creatives and work together to create something better than they could on their own.
After creating the Songwriting Collab, Hit Song Blue Print and the Burleigh Hill Collective , I was not only able to see how much self confidence it built in all the members and the pride of having something they created out there in the world, I’ve also been able to help others learn a better strategy and stop trying to do everything themselves. We can now use a powerful framework, structure and organisational tools to help songwriters work together to write and release better songs, faster.
Now I feel like I’m making a difference and helping others just like me break through the ‘gotta do it all on my own’ story.
If this sounds like something that might help you get your songs out into the world …
